My Approach to Spiritual Direction

I am a Christian contemplative whose practice as a spiritual director is fostered by the notion that when a person feels deeply listened to, it follows that they have the sensation of being understood. My practice of spiritual accompaniment is grounded in the qualities of time and attention, deep listening, and sacred conversation.

For You

Spiritual Direction is self-care. Isn’t it the case that many of us regularly visit a physiotherapist, personal trainer, a nutritionist or even a financial planner to take care of our well-being? What if it became part of our regular practice to meet with a Spiritual Director? Someone who supports our spiritual journey and well-being.

Bi-monthy or monthly sessions create space for a continued conversation and spiritual accompaniment. 


Nourish To Flourish

Spiritual direction is a unique one-to-one relationship where having been trained in the Pacific Jubilee program I accompany you, the directee, toward a deepening awareness of the movement of Spirit in your life. Be assured that our conversations are held in confidence by me. What is said in the session remains confidential except for the following:

  1. Harm to self or other

  2. Child abuse or neglect

  3. Elder abuse

  4. Domestic abuse

I follow the Guidelines for Ethical Conduct as a member of Spiritual Directors International. In following the guidelines I commit to work with a spiritual direction supervisor who in essence helps me to be the best spiritual director I can be. I do not share names or any specific and identifying characteristics or details of my directees with my supervisor. I keep no records, except in my journal for my own use and without any identifying names.

Financials

I offer payment on a sliding scale based on the notion of an ‘honesty box’. To pay what you can is determined by self-assessment. The payment generally slides between $55-$95 Canadian per hourly session and can be paid from within Canada by e-transfer to sarahlyon.spiritualdirection@gmail.com.
